The capital city of Keldabe had been decimated, so the domed city of Sundari became the new seat of the New Mandalore government. This conflict killed the majority of Mandalore’s population, but the young leader of the New Mandalorians, Duchess Satine Kryze, made laudable efforts to rebuild their world after the war ended. Such ecological devastation caused many Mandalorians to turn their back on violence and, from this movement, the New Mandalorians were born.įast-forward to sometime before the Trade Federation’s invasion of Naboo and civil war broke out between the New Mandalorians and the “martial traditionalists," which held some degree of power on Mandalore. The following centuries weren’t peaceful either, with prolonged conflict eventually turning the planet’s once-beautiful surface into an endless desert. Later, during the fall of the Old Republic at the hands of the Sith Empire, the Mandalorians raided the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and seized Vizsla’s Darksaber. Before his death, the Mandalorian Jedi ruled all of Mandalore. None of them were accepted into the Jedi Order prior to Tarre Vizsla. The ancient Mandalorians fought in many conflicts, often against the Jedi Order, and quickly became legends across the entire galaxy. As The Mandalorian Season 3 draws near, audiences will soon see the Mandalorians return to their ancestral home and the fight for control of the Darksaber.A mural from Mandalore. Din Djarin is the current keeper of the saber, after winning it from Moff Gideon. Bo-Katan intends to reunite her people, who have since become even further divided with the emergence of cults like the Children of the Watch, but she needs the Darksaber to do it. Since the Night of a Thousand Tears, Mandalore has been a wasteland. Bo-Katan was once again sent into exile from her planet, living with the guilt of her failures. This became known as the Night of a Thousand Tears. They burnt the cities and the planet to the ground, killing everyone who resisted them. Bo-Katan's actions brought the wrath of the Empire down on all of Mandalore. During this time, Sabine acquired the Darksaber from the Nightsisters, then gave it to Bo-Katan. But, aided by Sabine Wren, Bo-Katan wrestled back control and freed Mandalore from the Empire. The Empire supported Gar Saxon as their puppet ruler and gave him the power he needed to force out Bo-Katan (Satine's sister). Maul ruled Mandalore, using Almec as his puppet.Īt the very end of the Clone Wars, Maul and his followers were dethroned by Ahsoka and Clone forces. When Pre Vizsla finally imprisoned Satine and took the throne, he was quickly defeated by Maul, who began his dark rule on Mandalore by killing Duchess Satine when Obi-Wan tried to rescue her. Death Watch then promised to "stop" the attacks, which gave them the public support they needed. With Maul's considerable resources, Death Watch spread panic in the city and increased the doubts about Duchess Satine. Yet this time they had Darth Maul and his Shadow Collective to aid them. Years later, Death Watch resurfaced and planned on taking over the planet again. It was then discovered that Prime Minister Almec had betrayed Duchess Satine and was sent to prison. When children became poisoned by the food supply, the Jedi sent Ahsoka Tano to the planet. They were without key resources the Republic could offer, and Satine began to lose public support. Despite fighting for neutrality, Mandalore suffered because of it. They claimed she supported the Separatists in secret and even framed her for murder. When physical assassination continued to fail, Death Watch began to assassinate her character. As the war raged on, there were more assassination attempts against Duchess Satine, all of them foiled by Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker.
